Goasdoue Family Archive

Welcome to GuernseyGoasdoue – a family archive for the descendants of Yves Goasdoue and Celestine Guegan, who raised their children at Les Prevosts Farm in Guernsey, Channel Islands at the turn of the twentieth century.

I’m Jeannine, and I inherited a cache of the personal papers and photos of Celestine Goasdoue (nee Guegan). As a librarian and amateur historian, I recognised these as a unique resource for our family and created this site to serve as both an archive of our unique history and as a space to connect and share information. Luckily I am able to speak French, which has allowed me to not only understand the documents but also to be able to research the rich French genealogical archives. I have compiled an extensive family tree that links us all the way back to the Norman conquest of England!

How to use this site

I encourage you to expore all the content on this site. It has two main parts, the Core pages and the Blog.

Core pages include

  • Biography page for each original family member. There are a lot of gaps to be filled, and many of these are unfortunately still placeholders
  • Resource pages contain background information and context, and include a photo album, maps and a timeline of key events
  • Special interest pages – content devoted to major stories or themes of our family history. Having endured pandemics and public health crises, 2 world wars, major technological developments, there is a lot to share!

The blog is where I share my ongoing research, and provide updates to the archive. Where approriate these stories are linked into the biography page of relevant people. You can see the blog posts on the right hand menu of each page.

Feedback

Your contributions and feedback are always welcome! I am particularly keen to connect with family members who would like to contribute to the Archive (stories, memories, documents). The feedback page is where you can do this.

Jeannine

  1. Wow amazed to come across this site, my great grandparents are Jean Louie and Adele Goasdoue. I’ve passed this link to my dad who might be able to fill in some gaps from that side.
